The project entailed the replacement of the sewerage network system of the historical centre of Spoleto on behalf of Valle Umbra Servizi S.p.A. – the local operator for integrated water services. The requirement was to separate the drainage of rainwater from that of domestic waste water in order to restore conditions of efficiency and overcome the system’s critical conditions. The works entailed the installation of new PVC and GRES sewer pipelines for waste water, keeping the existing pipes and drains for rainwater disposal. The works also led to improved efficiency of the San Giacomo purification plant thanks to the reduced water load entering the system. The road surface of the area affected by the works was also restored; existing paving was kept and architectural barriers were removed where possible.
