November 30, 2017: Techproject wins a € 186 million contract in the consortium for the design and execution of the doubling of a 38-kilometer section on the Bicocca-Catenanuova railway line, on the Palermo-Catania line.
The first benefits in terms of travel time reduction will begin to be seen in 2020, with the activation of a first speeded track. The new track will allow trains to travel at a maximum speed of 200 km / h. The overall term of the works is scheduled in 2022, and by the end of 2025, thanks also to the other planned works, it will be possible to move from Catania to Palermo in less than two hours.

The works will concern the new railway headquarters, the armament, the signaling and telecommunication systems, the electric substations for feeding the trains, the redevelopment of the Bicocca station and the construction of the new station in Motta Sant’Anastasia.
