Urban redevelopment
Restoration and redevelopment of the Torrione Prenestino (Mausoleum) - Rome
The design works concerned the restoration and redevelopment of the “Torrione Prenestino” park in Rome. The park is located approximately 1,200 metres from Porta Maggiore and within it is a mausoleum encircled by concrete walls. The aim of the project was to improve quality of life in the area by building a number of axial and concentric walkways, removing architectural barriers and installing urban furnishing elements such as benches, bins, flower boxes, drinking fountains and tactile information panels. Walkways were improved by planting new bushes and building a “perfumed” route through various fragrant plants. Fruit trees were planted inside the flowerbeds at the points where the axial and radial walkways intercept. Fencing and lighting along the walkways and around the mausoleum area were added for site safety. The sidewalks were built using 20×40 cm size basalt tiles.
